April Reading Wrap-up 2023!

Hello bookworms and welcome to the April reading wrap-up!

It’s the start of a new month, which means it’s time for me to wrap up the books I read in April. As always, I’m excited to share with you my thoughts and feelings about the books I devoured over the past thirty days.

April was a great month for reading, and I found myself engrossed in a variety of genres. From heartwarming romances to illuminating nonfiction pieces, I definitely had a diverse reading experience.

So without further ado, let’s jump right into my April book wrap-up and discover some new books to add to your reading lists!

Spare cover

Spare (Prince Harry)

Spare was at the top of just about everybody’s TBRs this year. People were salivating at the prospect of having all the gossip about the crumbling royal family, straight from the horse’s mouth. That’s why this being less than superb was so disappointing. See my full review here!

Polyglot: How I Learn Languages (Kato Lomb)

Kato Lomb, according to the back of this book, “was one of the greatest polyglots of the 20th century…one of the first simultaneous interpreters in the world, Lomb worked in 16 languages for state and business concerns”.

In addition to providing information about how best to learn languages, she also had a broad knowledge base about what seems to be every topic on earth. I especially liked the quote she included by G.B Shaw, saying that he “spoke English in three different languages: one in his plays, one in his day to day life, and one in his intimate relationships”. Another banger of a line, this one straight from her pen, was “at first, we should read with a blitheness practically bordering on superficiality; later on, with a conscientiousness close to distrust”.

Atomic Habits: An Easy & Proven Way to Build Good Habits & Break Bad Ones (James Clear)

This book is a true productivity game changer. It absolutely earned all of the hype it has received, and you can count on seeing more content related to this book on my blog and Youtube channel.

Communion: The Female Search for Love (Love Song to the Nation, 2) (bell hooks)

As always, bell hooks revolutionized my way of thinking on yet another subject. At one point I started highlighting and before I knew it I had been transfixed for a page and a half, marking it all out for a later me to come back to. I have a full review on this book (including my favorite quotes from the book) coming soon, so keep an eye out!

Heartstopper: Volume 1 (Alice Oseman) (translated by Valérie Drouet)

One of my French reads for the year! Just as good in French as in English; love the art style of this series!

Please Don’t Go Before I Get Better (Madisen Kuhn)

I hate to say this, but it’s Instagram poetry. I found it irritating and repetitive and like someone took their notes app or their journal and made it into a book with zero edits.

Twice Shy (Sarah Hogle)

This was an excellent recommendation from one of my best friends, I flew through it giggling like a madwoman. Wesley is a painter and conservationist! Maybell is a traumatized dreamer with a romantic streak! It’s really everything you could want in a romance.
