cover of Little Women by Louisa May Alcott

Five of My Favorite Book Covers

We’ve all heard the phrase “Don’t judge a book by its cover”. And I try really hard not to! But sometimes, book covers are just so darn beautiful that I can’t help it. Here are some books I felt especially drawn to because of the cover, which absolutely delivered!

Ali Hazelwood book covers

The Love Hypothesis, Love on the Brain, Loathe to Love You Novella Collection (Ali Hazelwood)

I love the Ali Hazelwood covers! I know that the style has been overdone in the last few years in terms of romance covers, but something about the colors and how the characters are drawn itch my brain just right.

Little Women, book cover by Anna Bond.

Little Women (Louisa May Alcott)

There have been many beautiful covers over the more than 150 years since Little Women‘s publication, but my favourite by far has to be the Puffin in Bloom edition, illustrated by Anna Bond of Rifle Paper Co. The sweet faces of the March sisters against the plants is perfect for a story centering family and human connection.

The House in the Cerulean Sea book cover

The House in the Cerulean Sea (TJ Klune)

This is one of my new top books of all time, and this cover perfectly sums up why. This story is full of whimsy and fun, with the feel of reading your favorite book from when you were a kid again for the first time, while still handling some very serious and adult topics.

Book covers to Margaret Rogerson's books

Sorcery of Thorns, Enchantment of Ravens, Vespertine (Margaret Rogerson)

Margaret Rogerson’s works include some of my favorite book covers of all time. The hyperrealistic art style is definitely different from Ali Hazelwood’s covers, but it goes with the tone of her stories, and have a fantasy vibe that lets you know up front that you’re about to enter a world totally separate from the one you currently inhabit.

Book cover of Entangled Life

Entangled Life: How Fungi Make Our Worlds, Change Our Minds & Shape Our Futures (Merlin Sheldrake)

I think that Merlin Sheldrake might be the most interesting man alive, and he makes fungi fascinating with seeming ease. This cover is a perfect illustration of the wide variety of fungi that our world offers.
